Yes — the harbour is safe, traffic is gated, and Limanagzi water taxi is great for kids. The downside: most beaches are pebble or platform-style, not sandy. Patara (40 min) is the family beach.

An entire Lycian town that sank below sea level in the 141 AD earthquake — you can see house foundations, staircases and amphorae through clear water. Swimming over the ruins is forbidden by law.

Yes — PADI Open Water certification courses run April-October. £350 for the 3-day course incl materials, two pool sessions and four open water dives. Instructors speak fluent English.

Not really in town — most beaches are pebble or concrete swim platforms. Buyukcakil and Kucukcakil beaches are pebble. The nearest proper sandy beach is Kaputas (15 min) or Patara (40 min).

Authentic and affordable — Kas leans toward back-street meyhanes, Mediterranean mezes and seafood. Standout names: Bahce Balik (seafood), Mavi Restaurant (mezes), Cafe Merhaba (breakfast and books).

Magical — paddle directly above ancient walls in waist-deep clear water with the cliffs behind you. 5-6 hour tours include lunch and a swim stop. Suitable for total beginners; double kayaks are available.

Yes — Limanagzi has three small swim platforms each with a shaded restaurant. £4 return water taxi, every 30 min in summer. Best for snorkelling. Also walk-in from Cukurbag Peninsula.

No — drink bottled water (£0.30 for 1.5L). Most boutique hotels provide free water. Tap is fine for teeth-brushing and showers.

Yes — 1h 15m drive west. Combine with Patara Beach for a full day out. Tours from Kas £30-40 incl transfer + lunch by the river.

Yes — a genuine 4th century BC Lycian tomb still standing in the middle of Uzun Carsi (the long bazaar street). Lit at night, it is one of the most photographed objects in Kas.

Optional — the town is fully walkable but a car £30-45/day unlocks Kaputas, Patara, Saklikent, Xanthos and remote Lycian Way trailheads. Most boutique hotels have parking.

Yes — Myra is 1h east near Demre. Famous for Lycian rock-cut tombs and the Church of St Nicholas (the original Father Christmas). £6 entry. Combine with Kekova for a full day.

Very — fixed routes Kas to Kalkan (£1.50) and Kas to Demre (£2). Just shout indirin (drop me here) to stop. Drivers speak basic English in summer.

Yes, arguably best — sea still 22°C, hiking weather sublime, dive viz peaks, post-school crowds gone, prices drop 20-30%%. UK half-term gem.

Excellent shoulder-season choice (May, June, September, October). The town is gentle, walkable, with high-quality boutique B&Bs and dignified harbour cafes. July-August are too hot for sustained walking.

Yes — bohemian style. Live jazz, acoustic guitar bars, harbour-side cocktails. Closest thing to a club is Hideaway Bar. Loud party scene is in Marmaris/Bodrum, not Kas.

Very safe but winding — coastal D400 highway with mountain passes. Allow 2h 30m and avoid driving after dark if you can. Shuttle drivers do this route daily without incident.

Yes — Garanti, Akbank and Yapi Kredi accept UK cards. Use bank-branded ATMs (avoid Euronet) for lowest fees. Most are around the harbour and main square.

Yes via Antiphellos. Kekova is on the UNESCO Tentative List for its sunken city. Patara, Xanthos and Letoon (all under 1h drive) are inscribed UNESCO World Heritage.
